Maths Challenges:

This week we are beginning to be learning all about time.

Monday
You have some super time challenges to complete, you will need a grown up and a timer (you can access a countdown timer on a phone / tablet ).
You are going to complete some activities in 30 seconds , can you make a recording sheet like the one below ?

Before you start can you have a prediction (guess) how many will you be able to do ? count as you do them to see how many you can achieve , your grown up will be able to help! write this number on your sheet to show how many.

Did you achieve more or less than you predicted ? which activity did you complete the most of ? which did you complete the least of ? Now for a little more fun - can your grown up have a try ? you can count and record them!

Tuesday

Today you are going to watch a brilliant story - there are lots of opportunities to think about time in this story! Make your self comfy, put your best looking eyes and listening ears on.

In this story you will hear some days of the week - can you remember any days of the week ? listen our for them, when you hear one you can out your thumbs up !

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75NQK-Sm1YY

Which days of the week did you hear ? What time of day was it at the beginning of the story ? how do you know ? what could you see? Can you say the names of the days in the correct order? which day comes after Monday ? Which day do we do PE at school ?

Wednesday

Today we're going to continue with yesterdays learning about the hungry caterpillar. Can you remember the days of the week ? Ask your grown up to help you write them down on little cards. Can you now use your cards to put them into the correct order ?

Sing our days of the week song to help you ..... (to the tune of the Adam's Family)

Days of the week (clap, clap) x2
days of the week, days of the week , days of the week (clap, clap)
There's a Monday and  Tuesday, a Wednesday and a Thursday, a Friday and a Saturday and then there's Sunday too
days of the week, days of the week , days of the week (clap, clap)

Can you remember and draw the correct number of fruits on each days ? you can watch the video again to help you !

Which day did he eat the most fruit ?
Which day did he eat the least fruit ?
How much fruit did he eat on Monday and Wednesday ??
Challenge : Can you write the number sentence to go with this ? eg on Monday and Tuesday he ate 1 apple and 2 Pears ...... 1+2 =3

Extra tricky challenge : I have added all of the fruit on 2 of the days. My total is 6. Which days do you think I added together? Could there be another answer?

Thursday

There are many different ways of telling the time, talk to your grown up about these e.g wall clocks, alarm clocks, watches.Look around your house to see how many different types of these you can find.

Can you find a clock ? look carefully, what numbers can you see around the clock ? can you count them. Ask you grown up to draw a circle shape in your learning book - you could draw around something to help! Ask them to draw a line where each of the numbers should go. Can you go around the clock and write the numbers in ?
Have a look at the clock now - can you see the 'hands' of the clock ? what numbers are they pointing too? ask your grown up to tell you the time!

Tricky Challenge: On a clock there is a big hand a little hand, have a look at yours - can you see them ? The big Hand is the 'minutes' and the little hand it the 'hour' hand. We're going to think about learning to tell the time by the hour (o'clock) - there's a little rhyme to help... 'when the big hand is at the top, the time is O'clock'. Then we need to check the little hand to tell us the hour.

These are some 0'clock times.....Can you say what time it is ?

Keep checking the clock at home - ask your grown ups to challenge you to say the o'clock time!

Friday!

It's fun Fridays !! Well done for completing your learning challenges this week ! We hope you have had lots of fun!
