This week for fun Friday we would like you to be very creative. In school the key worker children have been learning about the famous painting 'Sunflowers' by Van Gogh.
We would like you to create your own version of this picture. You could use cut and stick resources, paints, playdough or natural objects from outside. We can't wait to see your wonderful creations!
We would also love to hear about and see any pictures if you are growing your very own sunflowers at home!!

week 12 maths
Maths
This week we are going to be learning to subtract number this week.
Key vocabulary
:
Take away, less
, subtract , equal , how may left over?
Monday
Today we are going to be using a song to support our simple subtraction. Do you know 5 little speckled frogs? there's a great link for it here
Sing the song with your grown up and use your hand to represent the 5 frogs. Each time a frog jumps off of the log put down 1 finger.
Sing the song again with out the video clip. Begin to talk about: how many frog are on the log?
How many frogs jumped off of the log ?
How many frogs are left over.
Children should have a good knowledge of counting back from 5 in their head and knowing the answer. If children need support you can encourage them to count their fingers.
Extend to using vocabulary 'take away'.
Tuesday
Today we will be continuing to use 5 little speckled frogs to support us beginning to write simple subtractions.
You will need your own 5 frogs and a log. You could draw these and cut them out.
In school we would use a mini script to support children understanding subtraction. We can it a subtraction story, it looks like this.
There were____ frogs sitting on the log
then ___ frog jumped off
Now there are ____ frogs on the log
We would use this model to talk through each stage of the rhyme. Say the story to the children and encourage them to use their frog puppets to support while they fill in the missing numbers . It would be great to encourage them to write this down (to support number formation)
Challenge : to begin to write the simple number sentences using the story to help.
show the children the - sign and explain that this means were taking something away. We write a number sentence as we would write a normal sentence. We write it in order as we say it. eg there were 5 frogs on the log, 1 jumped off (we need to take away/ subtract one) and there were 4 left on the log (equals 4)
5-1=4
repeat for each frog jumping off
Wednesday
Today we are going to to be exploring subtraction from a higher amount of 10, using the same concept of taking away 1 each time. The song we are using today is '10 in the bed' . You will need to collect 10 of your favourite teddies of characters. You could put them all in your bed and sing the song or you could find a blanket and me them a bed. As we did with the frogs we are going to sing the song and take out a bear each time. Talk about how many we have , how many role out each time, how many are left over.
Children may not be as confident reciting numbers from 10 in their mind, you could write down a number line of 1-10 to visually support them. Remind children that we have taken a bear away so we need to count backwards.
Use the subtraction story from yesterday
There were____ bears in the bed
then ___ bear rolled out
Now there are ____ bears in the bed
Challenge: re-cap writing number sentences from yesterday. Encourage children to have a go at writing their own for the rest of the song.
Thursday
Today we were going to be learning to subtract numbers greater than 1. We will be playing 'playdough squash' . Here is a great recipe you can use. (if you don't have ingredients to make play dough you could use some thing edible instead eg cheerios - which could be eaten to subtract)
You will need to write some simple subtraction sums onto some card for the children to use. First use 5-4 =
Talk through the number sentence with the children , do they remember the - sign?
Tell them this is 5-4 . The first number says how many balls they need, can they find this many? the next number is how many to squash. Ask the children how many are left over?
encourage the children to say the number sentence with there answer e.g 5-4=1
A number line 1-10 will further support children also. Remind them that it is take away so they will need to jump backwards on their number line.
Rpt for different examples.

Maths
This
week we are going to be exploring capacity!
What
do you think capacity means Tigers and Monkeys? Can you tell your grown up's
what you think this might mean?
This
week there will be some key vocabulary you will be using whilst exploring
capacity!
full
half full empty
nearly full
nearly empty

Using the containers from yesterday can you represent full, empty, half full, nearly empty and nearly full. If this is a little tricky you could focus on full, half full and empty until you are confident with this. Using your phonic knowledge can you label the containers? Once the labels have been made can you order the containers from empty to full? This could be a little tricky so remember to look carefully and see which has the least amount of water and which has the most.

Wednesday

Thursday
After yesterday's estimating we are going to order our containers to show which container holds the most and which container holds the least amount of water! You will need at least 3 containers to complete this challenge! You can have more if you wish for a trickier challenge. If you used a large jug yesterday can you use a small cup today to fill the containers? Do you think you will need more or less cups? Can you explain why you think this? Once the containers are full and you have carefully counted each cup. place these in order starting with the container which holds the most of amount of cups and finishing with the container which holds the least amount of cups!
Do you notice anything different to yesterday? Don't forget to take a picture of your super learning and sent it to us!

Week 10

Happy half term Tigers and Monkeys!! We hope that you are still having lots of fun completing your learning challenges, we have really enjoyed seeing the pictures of everything that you have been upto !
We know that you have all been working really hard at home, so this week we are giving you a little rest from all of our usual learning . Here are some different learning challenges!
Look at us!
This week we would like you and your grown ups to find out some old photographs of you and your family. These photographs might be in albums, in picture frames or on electronic devices. We would like you to look at pictures of you as a baby/toddler and pictures as your grown ups too. Here are some questions to talk about......
Do you look different in the pictures?
How have you changed ?
What can you do now that you couldn't do when you were a baby ?
How old do you think you were?
How old are your grown ups?
What is happening in the pictures?
Here are some baby pictures of the grown ups in the foundation unit. Can you guess who everyone is ? What is everyone doing ? . We will post and tell you the answers on Friday !
Grown ups - Ask the children how they would take a picture. Now, we would like you to talk to the children about the process of taking a photograph when you were little (even Miss Hanson and Miss Wilcox had to waiting for photographs to be developed). Taking the picture of a camera, waiting until they had all been taken and then taking the film to be developed, which took lots of times. Explain that it wasn't possible to take a picture and look at it straight away - until digital cameras were made,
You could show the children pictures of different types of camera and how they are different to the ways we take pictures today.
'Get caught reading'
We know how much Tigers and Monkeys love to read, so this week we are setting you a challenge .... where is the most interesting place you can read your story ? Ask you grown ups to take a picture of you reading your book and send it too our class email!
We can't wait to see all of you wonderful pictures !!
Once you have finished finding a great place to read . Here is a little video story for you too watch too - a little story to explain why the world is a little be different at the minute and how we can still show people we care but in a safe way!

Fun Friday!
It's Friday again Tigers and Monkeys our favourite day of the week! This week we would like you to practice your ball skills! We have practised throwing and catching at school in our PE sessions and we know how much you loved the tricky challenge of throwing and catching with smaller objects, such as a tennis ball!
You could begin throwing and catching with a large object like a football. If you can throw and catch this when you are close to your grown up you could take a step back! Once you are confident with this you could swap to a smaller object like a tennis ball! Challenge: Once you can throw and catch confidently with a small ball could you now try throwing and catching with one hand?

Week 8 Maths Learning
This week we are going to be learning at measure , including length and height.
Grown ups - Here is some language you will need to use this week
long short longer shorter longest shortest tall tallest
Monday
Today we are going to use natural objects to order by length. Go on a hunt outside and find some sticks or leaves. Can you choose 5 and order them from the longest to the shortest. Grown ups - ask us to point to the longest / shortest.
Extra challenge : if you have Lego pieces you could measure to see how many pieces long it is.
Tuesday
Today you could make some play dough to use or if you don't have the ingredients you could draw!
Make a playdough snake or draw a snake onto some paper . Now can you make a snake that is longer than yours ? then can you make a snake that is shorter than yours ?
Extra challenge: choose your longest snake. Go an find objects around the house that you think will be shorter than your snake. Bring them back and check by measuring against the snake. Remember they must both begin at the same part.
Keep your playdough or paper snakes for tomorrow
Wednesday
Today were going to continue our learning on measure but also include our learning on money too.
You will need you play dough or paper . Can you make 3 snakes ( 1 short , 1 longer, 1 longer than the shortest but shorter that the longest ). Now were going to use the coins to measure the snakes and see how long they are. Before you do it , have a guess.... how many coins long do you think it will be? now place them on and check ? how many coins did you use? how much money was this ? Can you you write this amounts?
Now repeat for your other snakes ? if they are shorter will it be more or less coins ?
Extra challenge : Could you measure using all 2p coins . What do you notice? was the number of coins more or less ? was the amount more or less?
Thursday
Family fun. Today's learning includes all of the family. Ask all of your family to stand in a row, can you order everyone from the tallest to the shortest person.
Now were going to measure them and see how many footprints tall them are.
First, you will need to draw around your foot lots of times on paper and cut them out - your grown ups can help you do this too. Remember to follow the lines when cutting.
Choose one of your family to lie down. Use your footprints to measure alongside them to see how many footprints tall they are.
